Repeated campaigns throughout U.S. history painted Asian Americans as perpetual outsiders, threatening the jobs and safety of “real Americans.”  Since the Sixties, the “model minority” myth has stereotyped Asian Americans as a monolithic group of over-achievers driven to succeed by family pressure, paired with a machine-like work ethic.  In the workplace, implicit biases about weak leadership and communication skills, and a lack of creativity often go unrecognized and unchallenged.  As media attention has focused on the rising tide of anti-Asian violence, Asian Americans are increasingly speaking up about the biases they face in various aspects of their lives.  This includes feeling marginalized in the workplace and facing the dreaded “bamboo ceiling” that limits advancement for Asian Americans.  Join us for a program where a wide array of Asian American lawyers will share their personal experiences in the workplace, and we will discuss research-based frameworks and personal strategies to combat bias and support inclusion and advancement.
