Doing Business in Africa: Opportunities for U.S. Investment

Doing Business in Africa: Opportunities for U.S. Investment
Tuesday, November 27, 2018 | 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Program Fee: Free for Members | $15 for Non-Members

Description:
The panel will discuss business opportunities for U.S. investment in Africa and how U.S. companies can incorporate Africa into their diversification strategy, U.S. – Africa relations in the Trump era and the recent African Continental Free Trade Area that could create the largest free trade zone in the world by participating countries.

According to the World Bank, 6 of the 10 fastest growing economies in 2018 are in Africa. The UN predicts that the population of Africa will reach 1.7 billion in 2025 and will increase to 2.5 billion in 2050. McKinsey projects consumer spending in Africa to reach $2.1 trillion by 2025, with other experts projecting combined consumer and business spending to reach $6.7 trillion in 2030. Despite these statistics, China surpassed the United States as Africa’s leading trading partner in 2009; between 2014 and 2016, U.S. exports to Africa fell by almost half – from $38 billion to $22 billion. The event will conclude with a Q&A followed by a reception with light food and beverages/cocktails.
