Description: 

Join the New York City Bar for a discussion about the role of the judiciary in India and the United States in upholding the rule of law and advancing individual rights. The Hon. Ushir Pandit-Durant, who made history as the first South Asian judge elected to New York State Supreme Court in Queens and the first South Asian woman judge elected in New York State, will moderate a discussion about these important issues with two path-breaking judges in their own right:  Judge Joseph Zayas, who rose from a public housing project in West Harlem to become the first Latino judge to serve as Chief Administrative Judge, and Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai, who is in line to become the second Dalit Chief Justice of India.
