Description:
The pandemic has deeply impacted the social and economic fabric of our communities, exacting a particularly disproportionate toll on certain vulnerable populations. In the United States and across the globe, low-wage workers have led the frontline pandemic response while enduring unprecedented levels of risk, wage insecurity, unemployment, and human rights abuses absent sufficient support structures. Businesses, facing a host of new challenges amplified by the pandemic, are facing new pressures to improve their business practices to more closely align to the framework under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights to protect, respect, and remedy human rights violations and to safeguard the rights of the most vulnerable worker along their supply chains. Join us as the panel explores the ways in which the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted employment and supply chains, provide practical guidance on how business practices and laws are evolving in response to growing calls to protect the rights of the most vulnerable workers at home and abroad, and consider how potential issues or disputes may be resolved in the future.
