Description:
Despite Mexico's attempt to target and root out corruption through initiatives like the National Anti-Corruption System (Sistema Nacional Anticorrupcion, SNA), Mexico continues to score low on Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index, being ranked 126 in 2022. Our panel of experts will discuss the current state of the initiatives to fight corruption through the SNA as well the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and their impact on Mexican businesses with ties to the U.S. as well as international businesses operating in Mexico. Additionally, they will discuss the partnership between the U.S. and Mexico to pursue corrupt actors as seen with the recent conviction of Genaro Garcia Luna, former secretary of Public Security in Mexico from 2006 until 2012, by a U.S. federal court for engaging in a criminal enterprise, including drug trafficking.
