Description:
Though the City of New York is officially committed to the Close Rikers Plan Rikers remains in crisis now.  People continue to die in city jails and the conditions required to implement the closure of Rikers cannot be met without significant policy changes.  Even under the best of circumstances, closure is years away.  Join us to hear from a panel of experts as they discuss: the current conditions at Rikers, steps that can be taken to address the immediate crisis, whether a federal receiver be appointed over the Department of Corrections, and what the path forward is to achieve safety for those incarcerated in New York City’s jails.
