NY CLE Credit:
1.0 Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias

• Newly admitted New York attorneys (attorneys admitted to the New York State Bar for two years or less) cannot earn CLE credit in the category of Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias.
• Experienced New York attorneys due to re-register on or after July 1, 2018 must earn one credit hour in Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias. Experienced attorneys who earn more than one credit in this category in their reporting period may use such credit to meet the remainder of the 24 credit hour biennial requirement (except for the Ethics & Professionalism credit requirement).

Description :
On January 19, 2018, the New York City Council passed a law, effective October 15, 2018, that amends the New York City Human Rights Law, and requires employers, housing providers, and places of public accommodation to engage in “cooperative dialogue” with individuals with disabilities and other protected categories (i.e. religion, pregnancy, childbirth, or a related medical condition, and victims of domestic abuse, sex offenses, and stalking).  The City Council is hopeful that the amendment will help eliminate bias against protected individuals. Come join us on November 13, 2018, as we welcome the Commissioner of the New York City Commission on Human Rights, Carmelyn P. Malalis, as well as other senior attorneys from the Commission, to discuss the new law, guidance issued by the Commission in June 2018, and implications for protected individuals, covered entities, and the public at large.
