Description:
Buildings account for about two-thirds of greenhouse gas emissions in New York City and large buildings—those containing more than 25,000 square feet of floorspace—account for over half of all building emissions. In 2019, New York City passed its Climate Mobilization Act, which commits the city to reducing its emissions 40% below a 2005 baseline by 2030 and 80% by 2050. The most significant part of the 2019 Act was Local Law 97, which limits greenhouse gas emissions from existing and new large buildings beginning on January 1, 2024. As the city approaches 2050, emissions limits will tighten and penalties for non-compliance will increase. As LL97 compliance requirements loom larger, property owners, coop boards, and other stakeholders are figuring out what compliance will require, how it will be enforced, and what lawyers, engineers, and others can do to get ready.

Join us to hear from leaders and experts on LL97 as they share the perspectives of city government, property owners and managers, engineers, and real estate law.
