Description:
Join us for a discussion with Bob Bauer and Jack Goldsmith, authors of After Trump: Reconstructing the Presidency.  Mr. Bauer and Mr. Goldsmith will discuss how the presidency of Donald Trump uniquely exposed the vulnerability of the great office to excesses of authority and weaknesses in accountability, as well as their detailed roadmap for reforms to the office. Their proposals relate to curbing abuses of presidential power for personal and political gain through, for example, eliminating financial conflicts of interest and formalizing tax disclosure requirements. Their proposals also address deficiencies in the relationships between the White House and the Justice Department and the White House and Congress. In conversation with Anne Milgram, Bob Bauer and Jack Goldsmith will discuss this roadmap that will surely guide the debate under the incoming Biden-Harris Administration. Bob Bauer served as Barack Obama's White House counsel, and Jack Goldsmith served as George W. Bush's assistant attorney general in the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel.
