This CLE will commemorate and discuss: 3) The importance of the Right to Counsel three years after it was signed into law; 2) The recommendations of the Special Commission on the Future of the NYC Housing Court, two years after they were implemented; and, 1) The Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act ("H.S.T.P.A.") and its effect on current law, one year after its enactment. The first half of the program will focus on the Right to Counsel and the way it is changing Housing Court and individual rights, and the rule changes imposed by the Special Commission. The second half will review the precedent created thus far by the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act, which is crucial to practicing attorneys, judges, court staff, academics, and neighborhood communities.
