Description:
This program examines Native American courts in NYS, using the Oneida Indian Nation Court as a case study. It includes a discussion on Native American courts from the perspective of Oneida Indian Nation Representative Ray Halbritter; a look at the basic Indian laws governing tribal courts and tribal court jurisdiction; and a judicial panel discussion on the interaction between the tribal courts and NYS courts. The judicial panel includes the Hon. Robert G. Hurlbutt, Hon. Marcy L. Kahn and Hon. Mark A. Montour. There will also be a short video featuring Hon. Richard D. Simons, Retired Judge, Oneida Indian Nation Court. Dancers from the Oneida Indian Nation will perform a welcome dance in authentic dress.
