Description:

Over the past twenty years, China has increased its engagement with Latin America. By way of example, total China-Latin America trade increased from almost $18 billion in 2002 to nearly $449 billion in 2021.  As recently observed by the Congressional Research Service, “China’s engagement with the region has grown significantly since 2001, particularly in terms of diplomatic and economic ties. This growth reflects China’s global ‘soft power’ efforts and ‘influence operations’ worldwide.” The panel will provide an overview of China’s major transactions and examine trends in Latin America with Chinese investment projects.  The panel will also discuss potential opportunities for investors in the U.S., and how to navigate risks and other strategic considerations.
