Description:
Each year the Day of the Endangered Lawyer, an international day of observance, marks events of concern in particular countries that affect a lawyer's ability to independently represent their clients without harassment and intimidation from outside and government sources. This year's Day of the Endangered Lawyer focuses on lawyers in Afghanistan. Speakers include Margaret Satterthwaite, the newly appointed UN Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers, who will discuss her role, and relevant international standards and guidelines, as well as Dr. Sima Samar, who will highlight the current issues for lawyers and judges in Afghanistan, as well as the situation of women.
