Description: 
In recent years there have been numerous attacks on judges and lawyers around the world while they perform their day to day functions. The UN Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers, Diego García Sayán, will discuss the current challenges facing the independence of the judiciary, and legal professionals more broadly. During this discussion the U.N. Special Rapporteur will touch on topics such as: updating international standards for the judiciary, present an overview of his annual report, and insights from his recent country visits.  A small reception will follow the program.
