Description: 
The Kathryn A. McDonald Award for Excellence in Service to Family Court recognizes the vital services of attorneys who work in the Family Court in New York City. Judge McDonald’s legacy is one of excellence, compassion, determination, and dedication to the highest standards of the administration of justice. From her career at the Legal Aid Society’s Juvenile Rights Division, to the Family Court bench, she never wavered in her advocacy for children, families, and the NYC Family Courts. Judge McDonald served as Administrative Judge of the Family Court of New York City for almost 10 years. Every one of those years was devoted to providing dignity, equality, and the protection of the rule of law to every litigant. Judge McDonald did not suffer fools gladly and confronted every crisis from the AIDS epidemic to the crumbling family court infrastructure with a combination of grit and undaunted optimism.
