Description:
In honor of July being Minority Mental Health month, this session will offer a frank dialogue that centers BIPOC practitioners and offers tools for leaders to build support strategies in the workplace for BIPOC staff. As attorney's who are a part of the BIPOC communities, the professional experience of serving people of color in crisis is not so distant from many of their personal experiences. The people impacted mirror their own communities, their neighbors, family or friends. As a member of the BIPOC community, Speaker Chanel Smith is impacted by the complexities of racial trauma and systemic harm and oppression, which on top of the issues presented directly on her caseloads, further burdens her ability to thrive in the workplaces without support. In the recent article, Secondary Trauma at Work: Why We Experience It and How We Cope | Teen Vogue , Chanel Smith, exposes this issue of how Secondary Trauma impacts attorneys of color, particularly black attorneys.
