The Life Cycle of an Artist

The Life Cycle of an Artist: Tax and Administrative Issues
Originally held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 | 10:00 am - 11:45 am

Description:

An artist will encounter numerous issues and planning opportunities regarding the taxation and administration of his or her art, from its creation, through the holding, sale, and gifting of that art during the artist’s lifetime, to the management and disposition of that art upon the artist’s death. Members of the Committee on Estate and Gift Taxation will offer a fast-paced journey through the lifecycle and beyond of the artist and will cover topics of import to all artists and their counsel. In addition to covering estate planning for and with art, our expert panel will focus on such topics as:

Special considerations for artist’s estate plans, including the handling of nonfungible tokens (NFTs)
Lifetime vs. postmortem gifts
Intellectual property considerations
Charitable planning
Artist-funded foundations
State sales and use tax questions
Appointment of an art executor, trustee, or advisor
Administrative issues after the artist’s passing
Appraisal concerns
