Description:
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a crisis in the country’s economy,
with April’s unemployment rate soaring to 14.7 percent. Predictions for
May are even more dire. Our distinguished panel will address how New
York State is handling the unprecedented number of unemployment
applications and the effect it is having on the state’s system.
Panelists will present an overview of the existing unemployment
insurance rules, changes to the availability of unemployment insurance
due to the pandemic, and the New York State Department of Labor’s role
in evaluating eligibility and adjudicating claims. This panel is a must
for UI practitioners as well as those attorneys who want to become
familiar with the unemployment insurance system.
