Description:
With a push to legalize cannabis in New York this year, pending federal legislation to protect financial institutions from federal prosecution for servicing cannabis businesses, and the first cannabis patent infringement action surviving an early challenge in Colorado district court in April, the cannabis industry is quickly maturing. There is a rush to stake claims to valuable intellectual property and ethics related issues for attorneys who advise cannabis clients. The panel will discuss the evolution of the U.S. cannabis industry and its IP assets, current regulatory landscape at the state and federal level, and branding and trademark issues for cannabis businesses.
