Description:
Since 1993, Rep. Maloney has represented the 12th Congressional District, which includes most of the East Side of Manhattan and Roosevelt Island and extends across the East River into the Boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn. Maloney is currently a senior member of both the House Financial Services Committee and the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and House Ranking Member of the Joint Economic Committee. A tireless advocate for New York, she has delivered more than $10 billion in federal aid to the City, including billions of dollars for the two largest transit construction projects in the nation, the Second Avenue Subway and the East Side Access project, both of which run through her district, and have helped create thousands of jobs in New York. She has authored landmark legislation, including the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act and its re-authorization to make sure all those suffering health ailments associated with 9/11 get the medical care and compensation they need and deserve; the Debbie Smith Act, which increases funding for law enforcement to process DNA rape kits; and the Credit CARD Act, also known as the Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights, which has saved consumers more than $16 billion annually since it was signed into law in 2009.
Carolyn B. Maloney is a recognized national leader with extensive accomplishments on financial services, national security, the economy, and women’s issues. Rep. Maloney is currently focused on passing the “Never Forget the Heroes: Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act,” which would fully compensate the victims of the 9/11 attack and their families. Her efforts include wearing an FDNY firefighter jacket on the floor of the House and at the Met Gala to bring attention to this legislation. Rep. Maloney will discuss her work in Congress on many issues important to New Yorkers.
