Description:
The COVID-19 pandemic is exacerbating existing barriers to reproductive and maternal health and creating new ones. In some states, such as Tennessee, Texas and Oklahoma – lawmakers are exploiting the COVID-19 crisis to restrict access to reproductive healthcare by ordering the closure of abortion clinics and limiting maternal health services contending they are not essential healthcare. Pregnant people seeking prenatal care or giving birth are facing a novel health risk, rapidly changing hospital policies, and barriers that limit their options for safe maternal health care. The inability to access reproductive and maternal healthcare services is having a profound impact on individuals’ well-being and life. Join this conversation as we discuss the states executive orders, why access to the full range of reproductive and maternal health care is essential, and what the legal community can do to support such access during a pandemic.
