Description:
For many law firm owners, their practice represents decades of work, client relationships, and accumulated value, yet most attorneys have never been taught how to prepare for or structure a successful exit. This program walks attorneys through the practical, financial, and ethical considerations involved in transitioning or selling a law practice. It covers how law firms are valued, common deal and succession structures, key considerations under ABA Rule 1.17, and strategies for transitioning clients and employees while protecting the value of the practice. Attendees will also learn about common mistakes that can reduce a firm's value and the steps attorneys can take now to create more options for their eventual exit, whether retirement is approaching or still several years away.
Speakers:
Alex Gertsburg, ExitPath Partners
Craig Dobson, Dobson Law LLC
Moderators and Luncheon Co-Chairs:
Jonathan R. Ratchik, Kramer, Dunleavy & Ratchik, PLLC
