Since the NYS Court System launched its Presumptive ADR program for matrimonial cases in 2020, mediation awareness in the private and public sector alike has increased. Parties to family law and matrimonial proceedings are seeking access to mediation, and NY family law attorneys have a renewed opportunity to expand their practices and rethink their process strategies.

If you are a family lawyer representing clients in court-referred or private mediation sessions, if you advise or consult with clients through the negotiation and settlement process, or if you are looking to grow your practice in creative and needed ways, you will not want to miss our interview with author Lara Traum, Esq.

Lara’s book “Effectively Representing Clients in Family Mediation” with co-authors Forrest S. Mosten, and the Hon. Elizabeth Potter Scully, was published by the American Bar Association in 2023. The book has generated rave reviews. It has been described as a “masterpiece” and a must-have comprehensive guide for Family Law attorneys. We will interview Lara and discuss with her what sets her book apart, how the pandemic affected family law practice, and her opinions regarding future trends.

Lara is partner, collaborative attorney, and mediator with Roytberg Traum Law and Mediation, P.C. She received her Juris Doctorate from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2016 with a Concentration in Family and Matrimonial Law and a Jacob Burns Medal for Scholastic Achievement. Lara was the Editor-in-Chief of the Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution. She is the incoming president of the New York State Council of Divorce Mediation, and an active member of Long Island Collaborative Divorce Professionals. Her writing on mediation and family law has appeared in numerous publications. Her book “Essential Guide to Mediating Family Disputes” is forthcoming in 2024.
