Description: 
On November 11, 2019, The Gambia instituted proceedings against Myanmar before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) alleging violations of the Genocide Convention. The Gambia argues that Myanmar has committed and continues to commit genocidal acts against members of the Rohingya group, a “distinct ethnic, racial and religious group that resides primarily in Myanmar’s Rakhine State”. On January 23rd, the ICJ found that there is a real and imminent risk of irreparable prejudice to the rights invoked by The Gambia for the protection of the Rohingya in Myanmar and issued provisional measures   ordering Myanmar to prevent the commission of all acts within the Convention and take effective measure for the preservation of evidence related to the allegations.
