2.0 Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias
• Newly admitted New York attorneys (attorneys admitted to the New York State Bar for two years or less) cannot earn CLE credit in the category of Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias.
• Experienced New York attorneys must earn one credit hour in Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias. Experienced attorneys who earn more than one credit in this category in their reporting period may use such credit to meet the remainder of the 24 credit hour biennial requirement (except for the Ethics & Professionalism credit requirement). Description:
The way we relate to people often depends on how we perceive them. Unfortunately, our perceptions are rife with implicit biases that we have absorbed through socialization and media messages. This demonstrative and interactive program illustrates, through the use of exercises and dialogue, the ways that implicit biases invade our speech, thought processes and ultimate decision-making. This program interrupts biases by shedding light on them and providing practical guidance on creating more inclusive work spaces for lawyers and the legal community more broadly.
