New York's New Medical Aid in Dying Act: What Attorneys Need to Know
Tuesday, July 21, 2026 | 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm
Format: Webinar
Description:
With the enactment of the Medical Aid in Dying Act, New York has joined a growing number of states recognizing the right of certain terminally ill adults to seek medical assistance in hastening death. The law, which takes effect in August 2026, introduces a new legal framework that will affect healthcare providers, patients, families, and the attorneys who advise them.
This program will provide attorneys with a practical understanding of the new law, including who qualifies, how the process works, the roles and responsibilities of healthcare providers and institutions, and the legal protections built into the statute. The program will also address implementation challenges, ethical considerations, and the impact of the Act on estate planning, elder law, healthcare law, and client counseling. Whether you advise individuals, families, healthcare organizations, or fiduciaries, this program will help you understand and prepare for a transformative change in New York law.
