Description:
Motion practice is at the center of civil litigation. To be effective, litigators at all levels of experience must have a firm grasp on the procedural and substantive issues affecting every motion. Understanding the bedrock practice principles, as well as the recent developments in the law and court rules, are crucial to effective motion practice. Our distinguished panel of judges and experienced practitioners will provide guidance on deciding whether to file a motion, when and how to file it, how to present the motion most effectively, and also how to oppose persuasively. The presentation will explore strategic consideration and practical pointers. Numerous kinds of motions will be covered, including motions to dismiss, motions for expedited injunctive relief, motions for summary judgment, and discovery motions, plus discussion of oral argument and trial-strategy considerations. The program format will include Q&A where the moderator and panelists will interact with one another, and express their differing and unique perspectives. The discussion will thereby offer expert insight and guidance to help every litigator foster and hone the motion practice skills necessary to succeed in civil practice in New York State and Federal Courts.
