Description:
The program will discuss the ethical issues facing an attorney during tax representation. Attorneys must be aware of, and be able to balance, the conflicting demands of vigorously representing a client and following IRS and state bar ethical rules. Attendees will learn (1) How much disclosure taxpayers must make to the IRS; (2) When an attorney must independently investigate and verify information provided by a client; (3) When an attorney must decline representation or withdraw from an ongoing representation; and (4) An attorney’s duty to assess the strength of the client’s position.
