Description:
Providing counsel to nonprofit organizations requires knowledge and understanding of corporate and tax laws and regulatory regimes that often differ from those applicable to for-profits. In its annual evening CLE program, “Hot Topics in Not-for-Profit Law,” the Non-Profit Organization Committee is bringing together a diverse array of experts representing academia, in-house counsel and law firms to reflect on the current occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Tax Reform Act of 1969, which enacted sweeping changes in the federal tax law governing private foundations and established their current regulatory regime.

The program will provide in-depth, practical learning for lawyers advising both private foundations and public charities, as well as those interested in the nonprofit sector generally. The evening will include an overview of private foundation law and an evaluation of its effectiveness; legal guidance on how funders and funding recipients can increase impact through program related investments; best practices in drafting and negotiating grant agreements; and recent legal developments related to other charitable-giving vehicles including donor-advised funds.
