Women on the Walls Initiative: Help Us Honor the First Female Justice — and Presiding Justice — Appointed to the Appellate Division, First Department
The New York City Bar Association, in conjunction with its Women in the Legal Profession Committee, is raising funds for its "Women on the Walls" initiative, which was begun by the WILP Committee to honor female members of the legal profession with strong ties to the New York City legal community, with the goal of achieving gender representation in the art hung on the walls of the City Bar’s building. Portraits of New York’s Chief Judge Judith Kaye and District Court Judge Deborah Batts were previously commissioned as part of this initiative.
We are thrilled to announce this year's project, which is to commission a portrait honoring the Honorable Betty Weinberg Ellerin, to be hung in the New York City Bar Association’s landmarked building at 42 West 44th Street.
Betty W. Ellerin broke barriers as the first woman appointed to the Appellate Division, First Department in 1985, and later became its first female Presiding Justice. Prior to that, she served as Deputy Chief Administrative Judge of New York State, overseeing the city's trial courts, and presided over the City Part in New York County, where she settled over 2,500 cases.
Your donation of any amount will help to secure the portrait commission and a reception to unveil Judge Ellerin's portrait. If we raise sufficient funding to cover these costs, any excess funds will be used for future Women on the Walls projects.
No results returned.
If you would prefer to donate via check, please make payable to "City Bar Fund" and add a note: "For Judge Ellerin's portrait"
