Though an increasing number of firms have adopted a robust approach to associate performance management, many continue to focus heavily on a single performance metric: the billable hour. Unfortunately, this metric does not help associates or their employers (current or future) understand an associate's strengths or needs for development. Tracking billable hours does not inform where an associate has growth opportunities or how their "personal brand" is shaping up. To address this gap and/or enhance the personal value of a firm's existing approach, associates may consider initiating some performance management activities on their own. This program will help associates take charge of their success by learning why they should and how they can engage in their own performance management.

During the first hour of the program, the panel will discuss the fundamentals of performance management, including why it is important for all associates and how it may be done. Among other things, the panel will discuss identification of skills to focus on and how associates can set related goals. Additionally, panelists will explain how associates can hold themselves accountable to their performance goals.

Following the panel discussion, attendees will break into small, facilitator-led groups. Attendees will work on drafting their own specific performance goals and establishing plans for achievement.

Speakers: LAUREN BERGIDA, Attorney and Business Consultant (former Manager, Deloitte Consulting LLP; formerly at Kasowitz, Benson, Torres and Friedman LLP); TIMOTHY LUPFER, Business Consultant (Retired Director, Deloitte Consulting LLP; Lieutenant Colonel, US Army (retired)); ORI PORTNOY, Professional Development Manager, Blank Rome LLP
