The panel will address the current efforts by financial institutions, insurers, and technology platforms to utilize blockchain, also known as distributed ledger technology, generally as well as the implications for trade finance and credit insurance. Some examples of the issues and questions the panel will explore include: An overview of the distributed ledger technology and current efforts; What are the opportunities and challenges of blockchain technology for the financial services sector generally as well as with respect to the areas of trade finance and credit insurance? What are the benefits for the end customer to using the platforms?; How do the regulatory regimes respond to the development of blockchain technology? Who will ultimately regulate the transactions? What does it mean for compliance issues (such as anti-money laundering, fraud, OFAC, and know your customer requirements)?; How safe is blockchain technology?  What are the cyber or other emerging risks associated with blockchain technology?; How will different blockchain platforms communicate with one another and how do we prevent siloing between different ledgers?
