Description:
The Day of the Endangered Lawyer is an annual global initiative dedicated to highlighting the challenges, threats, and persecution faced by human rights lawyers and legal professionals worldwide. Each year is marked with a focus on one specific country where lawyers are under threat. In 2025, the spotlight is on Belarus, a country where the rule of law and the independence of legal professionals are under severe strain. Belarusian lawyers face extraordinary challenges as the government intensifies its crackdown on dissent and human rights. The situation for lawyers in Belarus is emblematic of a broader decline in human rights and the rule of law in the country. By targeting legal professionals, the Belarusian government undermines the legal system itself, silencing voices that stand for justice and accountability.
