American whiskey and the law have a long and complicated history. The reasons that specific laws to define and protect American whiskey were introduced range from protecting and informing the public, to protecting the American spirits industry. Despite legal classification in state, national, and international law, many myths have made their way into conventional wisdom. The evolution of these various legal definitions, and how they have been misrepresented, is a great part of the American whiskey story. Guests will explore the flavor profiles of five American whiskeys through a guided tasting, while learning about the deep history between these spirits and the law. Hors d'oeuvres will be served.

Allan Roth, has been a guest instructor at a variety New York City's preeminent food and whiskey destinations, including Maysville and Murray's Cheese, and is a regular instructor at The Astor Center. Since 2012 Allan has worked at Char No. 4, a whiskey bar and restaurant, where he manages the beverage program and curates a selection of over 150 American whiskeys and dozens of others from across the globe.
